Insulation Boards

At Underfloor Heating UK we stock all types of insulation boards for underfloor heating with free next day delivery.

Insulation boards are materials used to insulate the floor in underfloor heating systems. They help to prevent heat loss and reduce energy consumption by reducing heat transfer between the warm floor and the cold subfloor. Insulation boards are typically made of materials such as polystyrene or polyurethane and come in various thicknesses to suit different floor types and heating requirements. They can be fitted between the subfloor and the heating element, or directly under the heating element. Proper installation of insulation boards is important for the efficient functioning of the underfloor heating system and to maximize the energy savings and comfort provided by the system.

Reducing energy wastage is a priority as energy prices rise. Installing underfloor insulation on your ground floor can lower the amount of heat lost through gaps between the floor and the ground. While adding insulation during a floor installation is ideal, installing later could be a cost-effective solution to reducing energy waste and lowering energy bills. Contact us at 01473 559079 for assistance selecting the proper insulation boards for your specific sub-floor and floor covering.

Our Range

We carry all types of boards necessary for a successful underfloor heating installation within our selection. Each board serves a specific purpose, so continue reading to learn about the different options available for each type we have in stock.

Tile Backer Boards

Tile backer boards, commonly known as Hardy boards, are specially designed lightweight and insulating boards for use in tiling floors and walls. They are lightweight and easy to cut with various tools like fine tooth saw, jigsaw, or utility knife. These boards are dimensionally stable, resistant to moisture, rot, and warping, and provide excellent thermal insulation, making them suitable for underfloor heating insulation. They come in sheets measuring 1200mm x 600mm and can be cut to size, with different thickness options including 6mm, 10mm, and 20mm.

XPS Insulation Boards

XPS boards are made for use with electric foil underfloor heating systems on timber and concrete floors. They are made of Extruded Polystyrene Insulation, created through an extrusion process where plastic resin and other components are melted and extruded through a die. During cooling, the liquid expands to form a closed cell, rigid insulation. XPS boards come in 1200mm x 600mm sheets and have thickness options of 6mm, 10mm, and 20mm.

Decoupling Membrane

Our decoupling matting system is multi-functional with a three-layer construction and offers various benefits beyond decoupling. Quick and easy installation makes it ideal for renovation projects, and it also serves as a carrier for electric underfloor heating cables, eliminating the need for separate installations. Available in roll lengths of 1, 5, and 15 meters, it can be used with all electric underfloor heating systems of cable thickness 2-5mm. The membrane absorbs stress, protecting the tiled surface and allowing residual moisture to escape through air spaces, preventing substrate cracks. These air spaces also ensure even heat distribution for more efficient heating.
